I generally will continue to prepare the return of a client who moves from New Jersey to another state, and currently do returns for clients in many different states. However, I have decided that if a client moves to a state whose state tax return I have not prepared I will no longer continue to prepare their returns – I do not want to have to take the time to learn a new state’s tax laws. At most I may continue to prepare the federal return and have the state return prepared by a local NATP member.
So the shameless self-promotion of which I speak has nothing to do with promoting my tax preparation services.
The reason I no longer accept new clients, and am trying to “thin the herd”, is that I want to have more time during the “regular year” to devote to writing.
Along those lines I do want to make it publicly known that I am available to write articles or a regular column for any print or online newsletter, magazine or publication – for a fee, of course. I can write a Q + A column with questions submitted by your readers, or I can tailor my articles or column to items that are of specific interest to your readers (i.e. written for the self-employed, or homeowners, or those with rental property, or a specific kind of trade or business such as police officers or fire fighters).
I am also available to write special reports on tax topics which you can be reprinted and distributed to members of a union or membership organization or readers of your publication.
If you are interested, or want more information, you can email me at email@example.com. Be sure to write “The Wandering Tax Pro” or “Tax Articles” or “Tax Column” in the subject line!
I also want to take this opportunity to “tout” my special report MY BEST TAX ADVICE. As the title suggests, this report provides the best tax advice I can give you and covers such topics as keeping track of investment cost basis, how long should you keep your tax records, what to do if you get a letter from the IRS (or your state), and choosing a tax professional.
I am in the process of completing a special report titled “TAXBUSTERS”, which will discuss
• avoiding the penalty for underpayment of estimated tax
• evaluating tax-free investments
• flexible spending accounts
• joint vs separate
• making the most of available education tax benefits
• multiple support agreements
• and much more
This report should be ready to “go to press” by mid-October.
