Word of mouth is indeed the best method - except when the word of mouth touts a preparer that makes up deductions to get a refund.<BR/><BR/>As for lawyers and CPAs not charging more than the average independent tax preparer - tax preparation fee studies have found that "designated" preparers do charge more on average than "non-designated" ones.<BR/><BR/>CPAs and lawyers are certainly not known for their reasonable fees.<BR/><BR/>Everyone charges more than I do.
