THE PRINCIPLES OF CONSERVATIVE POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY

No BUZZ today – but I do have a “final word”.

This is very important to note as we begin the confirmation hearing of Donald T Rump’s Supreme Court appointment.

Opposition to abortion and Roe v Wade is NOT a conservative position.

The five principles of conservative political philosophy are:

• Protect & Maximize Individual Rights
• Ensure a Limited Government
• Uphold the Rule of Law
• Commitment to Federalism and the Separation of Powers
• Maintain Free & Open Markets (Economic & Social)

The first two principles certainly preclude the opposition to abortion and Roe v Wade.  True conservatism calls for the prioritizing of the rights of the individual and the minimum involvement by the government in the personal and business life of the citizen.  Basically it is not the job of the government to tell a citizen how to live his or her life, other than to obey the law.

Opposition to abortion is based solely in religious belief.  The specific religious beliefs of one sect or group must NEVER be legislated.  The separation of Church and State is a cornerstone of American democracy.

By the way, it is also clear that everything Donald T Rump says and does is completely contrary to the five basic principles of conservative philosophy.
