The BUZZ is early this week – this “stuff” can’t wait until Friday.
* The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the “2024 Medicare Parts A & B Premiums and Deductibles” –
“Each year, the Medicare Part B premium, deductible, and coinsurance rates are determined according to provisions of the Social Security Act. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $174.70 for 2024, an increase of $9.80 from $164.90 in 2023.”
* Michael Cohn reports on a different type of disaster relief at ACCOUNTING TODAY – “IRS offers tax relief to taxpayers affected by terror attack in Israel”.
“The Internal Revenue Service is offering tax relief to individuals and businesses impacted by the terrorist attacks in Israel, as the agency responds to the unfolding crisis in the Middle East that has ensnared many Americans residing in or visiting the Holy Land.
They now have until Oct. 7, 2024, to file federal returns, send tax payments and do other time-sensitive tax-related actions.”
* Kelly Phillips Erb, FORBES.COM’S TaxGirl, tells us “IRS Announces 2023-2024 Per Diem Rates For Taxpayers Who Travel For Business” –
“The IRS has released its annual update of special per diem rates for taxpayers to use in substantiating business expenses while traveling away from home. The new numbers are effective as of October 1, 2023, and are to be used for per diem allowances paid to any employee on or after October 1, 2023, for travel away from home. The new rates include those for the transportation industry, the rate for the incidental expenses, and the rates and list of high-cost localities for purposes of the high-low substantiation method.”
Go here for the GSA tool to find the per diem rates for specific locations.
* Before I go there is a new BOBSERVATIONS post – “Life Imitates Art”.
